THE GIANTS OF THE MOUNTAINS
is an unfinished work of the writer Luigi Pirandello.
Since then and until his death in 1936, Pirandello
not managed to write the third and final act.
We only know that the last thought, during the last night of his life
was for that "third act" more than once imagined, dreamed
, told as a story on his deathbed to
son.
giants of the mountain is - by definition of Pirandello himself
- A myth, but his story is interrupted
. A troupe of traveling actors,
now reduced to starvation, on the edge of the civilized world,
comes across a group of strange beings, bizarre and without history - called the
shallots - living in an abandoned mansion, led by the magician
Cotrone and are painstakingly trying to
survive independently outside the company, reduced
desperate need to reinvent
every gesture and give it a name.
transform poverty into wealth, lack of food in
placid satisfaction, the lack of material goods
ascetic spirituality, desolate and barren country
in a factory of dreams. But
too far away are the clamor of the city,
theaters, too far is the comfort of civilian life
because the actors of the Society of the Countess
may decide to stay in that place between the remote mountains
... and too high, heavenly, angelic
poetry is conceived by Cotrone and his friends: a poem that serves
to life is to understand, to love, to fertilize
, life ...
The actors will go away, attracted by the siren
that last states to the Giants in front of the mountain, a
